What's the best tasting red buttercream in a can? I have to make an Elmo cake in a few weeks, and I don't want to go through the trouble of coloring buttercream and ending up with icing with a bitter dye taste.

there is no good buttercream in a can. boxed cake mixes are okay, but not pre-made buttercream.

If you have a Sam's Club near you, they sell their colored buttercream. You have to buy a 8-12 pound bucket of it, but it is only around $16, and it tastes ok. With Christmas coming up, it may not be too hard to use the bucket up.

I agree. I don't think there is a great tasting buttercream in a can. You should make your own HTH

I just tried Dixie's icing and it's delicious! Dixie is very friendly and ships pretty quickly. The red and black icing does not have a bitter aftertaste but they stain your tounge and mouth lol... You can order online here. http://www.dixiesicing.com/. I sort of feel like a cheater when I use pre-made icing BUT I will probably use Dixie's except for special icings that I make.
