The icing is just stripped with a spatula..Very easy to do...keep going over and over until desired look.

You can try the Wilton Icing Sculptor

From all report I have heard/read I would NOT invest in the Wilton Sculptor! icon_sad.gif

That look is easily done by draging your spatula from one side of the cake to the other with somewhat light pressure - instead of smoothing the icing.

I agree. I would ice the cake well, but not perfectly smooth. Make sure you have crisp edges at the corners. That way it will show that you know what you are doing and the finished effect is on purpose!

Once your cake is iced, I would start at the top of a side and work down. This will allow you to hide the lower edge with the next stroke of frosting. Take some icing and drag it across the side. Don't go to the edge and ruin your crisp lines.

Use the same amount of icing each time for a consistent look.

Use the same number of lines on each side for a consistent look.

Thank you, thank you, thank you... I kinda thought that it would be as easy as that but wasn't too sure - would this effect still work with ganache?

Probably not on ganache. That technique is pretty much a buttercream thing.

Agree to both. Especially on the Wilton Sculptor. A complete waste of money.
