Can anyone help with some ideas/suggestions please? I've been asked to do a number 1 cake for a little girl but they want it to feed 50 people. The usual cake frames only do about 20 servings I think. I'd gone down the road of perhaps a number 1 on top of another cake but they didn't seem that keen. Maybe cut a number with a template but can anyone tell me what size I would need to feed this many please?

thank you all

I would use a 11x15 Sheet pan and make it 3 layers and use a homemade template to cut out the number 1. Make the number 1 large.

I believe this would work because a 2 layer, 4 inch high, 11x15 (inch) sheet cake makes 70 party size servings, so buy the time you cut out your number there should be plenty left for 50 people, and to make the slices a bit bigger make it 3 layer instead of 2. Or even bigger use a 12x18 (inch) 2 layer, 4 inch high sheet cake, it makes 108 party size servings, so after you cut out the template, there is plenty left.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I did one recently using a single layer 12x18 pan. I cut in in thirds long ways stacked 2 of the thirds together and used the remaining third for the bottom and top parts of the 1. Worked out great since the 12x18 serves 50. Good luck.

Hi, you can cut the no. 1 from a square cake without wasting any cake at all. You can use a 11" square which will give you 56 portions or 12" square which you can get 66 portions. The portion guide is according the portion guide I follow.

Thanks a million everyone - you've all been a great help. I will bake a large and do the template then I can get the portions required. CCers are the best as always! icon_smile.gif

@allaboutcakeuk, I have recently made two #1 cakes (in my gallery).

For the first I torted, filled and stacked to 12 x 18s and then used a cardboard template and carved the 1 out. Same thing with the second, just used 10 x 15 pans. Good luck!

I recently make a sweet 16 cake using the template at http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1111573. You could adjust the pan size to accomodate the number of servings you need.
