so I normally love using a crusting buttercream. When I make my 3D animal cakes I still use that recipe and when I pipe the fur it gets brittle. I've used the all butter buttercream recipe before and that is just a mess. Does anyone have any suggestions on a different frosting that will keep the "fur" shape and not be brittle. Thanks so much

I use two pounds powdered sugar, 1 1/2 cups hi ratio shortening, 1/2 cup salted butter, 2 tablespoons clear vanilla and 1/3 cup water or non dairy flavored coffee creamer. Whip until fluffy. I have been using this recipe for almost twelve years and have not found any other recipe that I like better. This one is also good but I tend to stick with what I know works. http://cakecentral.com/recipes/7419/extra-special-buttercream-icing-recipe/
