I have a baby shower order for cookies and cupcakes. The cupcakes are to be simple. The mommy to be wants the babys name on half me the cookies and The otherhalf she wants butterflies and hearts. The color scheme is purple and green. I have no idea how to to get started on the cookies! She doesn't want fondant.
So if you go to google and just put in butterfly cupcakes or cookies and look at images you'll get a million ideas. There are a lot of great things you can do with royal icing and pulling colors around to make beautiful effects. You can also use chocolate and colored candy melts to make two wings and then set them in a thick line of buttercream for the body of the butterfly and a little buttercream head.

Have you thought of embossing butterflies onto the cookies after you have iced them?
Bluehue.
If you want to do something really striking, but simple, I'd make just circles and squares. Make a base coat of royal icing in your colors and let dry. Add the baby's initial in the middle. Make some simple gumpaste flowers and leaves, and embellish with those and some sparkly edible butterflies like these:

They look so impressive, but are so easy!
My daughter's 2nd birthday party in May was a butterfly theme, and we carried that theme throughout the entire dessert table. Lots of pictures here:

I found these beautiful butterfly cookies inspirational:

It's important to choose colors with nice contrast, or throw some black and white in. It really makes the designs pop.
