I am hoping to try some new flavor ideas and combinations and was wondering what everyone's favorite fall flavors are? Thanks for sharing! icon_biggrin.gif

Caramel Apple Cake- I used a apple sauce cake, with layers of caramel and apple pie filling (idea is couretsy of MacsMom)
Pumpkin pie- Pumpkin cake with layers of cheesecake filling and candied pecans.
Spice cake, with cheesecake and cranberry filling seems very "Fally" to me icon_smile.gif

How about a pumpkin spice cake with a whipped caramel icing? Credit for the icing goes to Leah. She suggested using brown sugar in place of white in her whipped icing recipe.
We used this for our son's birthday last September and it was a big hit.

I lovelovelove to make Pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting.
Apple cider cake with caramel filling.
Butter pecan with brown butter frosting (to die for!)
Spice cake with eggnog buttercream (I guess that's more wintery)

I have loved making summery flavors (tons of lemon variations..lemonade, lemon poppyseed, etc, strawberry, huckleberry) but I am ready to start with fall flavors!

Butter pecan with brown butter frosting! OMG!!!! I have got to figure out that one. I am with ANY pumpkin combo.

I am getting ready to offer a pumpkin spice with hazelnut buttercream. I'm going to use it at a tasting for my friend who's getting married in October. I'm going to buy the Love n Bake hazelnut praline paste from King Arthur Flour. I'm just going to mix it right into my IMBC.

Here are some fall-ish flavors I have thought about:

Creme Brulee (don't know...guess cuz it's usually served warm haha)
Spice/Apple Spice/Pear Spice/Pumpkin Spice
Red Velvet (only because of the pretty red color)
Butter Pecan
Carrot (don't know why-maybe because it's heavier and has spice)

Fillings:
Cream Cheese with Toffee Walnuts
Hazelnut BC
Apple Butter Cream Cheese (this is AWESOME but it's on the runny side so make sure you use a good dam)
Caramel
Apple Pie filling

I also have a cranberry buttercream recipe floating around; if anyone wants me to post it let me know.

I would love your cranberry buttercream recipe! What cake/filling flavor do you like to pair it with? I've seen a flourless chocolate cranberry cake, but now I'm thinking it could go with all sorts of different flavors. Cranberry Dreamcicle? I add orange juice to my cranberry sauce...hmm...

Hey Mandy,

I will post the recipe when I get home from work today. It's in DeDe Wilson's Wedding Cakes book. She has it paired with a pumpkin spice cake which I make all the time.
