Torting A Cake

I have tried torting a cake and it fell apart : / any suggestions on how I can get it to hold up?

Or, if your recipe is more delicate, torte it frozen. The cake will be sturdier while frozen.

And don't try to lift it with a spatula - I used a thin laminated placemat to shimmy in between the cut layers and it was easy to lift, fill, and then slide back on top.
