I thought it would be a fun idea for us to share our own personal wedding cakes and, a little back story like did you make it yourself, order it, did you love it??

Here is mine:

Image

My wedding was 2004 (to date it! HA) and I ordered mine from a great home cake decorator in my area. We went around to a bunch of places from big to small and, her cake taste and designs were GREAT so, we booked her on the spot. If I remember correctly, the bottom tier was strawberries and cream, the middle was peaches and cream and, I have NO IDEA what we picked for the top (LMFAO)

My flowers were roses with crystals:

Image

and my bridesmaids wore deep rich red gowns with a lace up back (which matched my Maggie Sottoro wedding dress).

Image

All in all, I was pleased as punch with how it all turned out.

I've shown you mine now, you show me yours!!! LOL

I can't find my pictures on this computer....
I loved the way that my wedding looked (2003 so mine is even more dated than yours). My color was Victorian lilac, that was the color that my girls wore and the color of the mens vests. The bridesmaids bouquets were pale yellow roses and mine was White iris' with purple centers. The church was simple bu elegant, I just had ferns on the platform and the unity candle, that's all. The reception was pretty too but nothing over the top. My cake...... well....... it was ok. It wasn't what I expected but it worked. It was a gift from the lady who did my catering, she used to be my babysitter. I won't complain but now that I am a baker I will admit that it could have been better. If and when I find pictures I will post a few.

I often tell my husband that it would be fun to plan our wedding all over again knowing what I do now! LOL. He says that for our 10 year we can do a renewal and I can have at it! LOL

I hated my wedding cake. It wasn't what I discussed with the reception hall at all..

Luckily it tasted amazing so I didn't throw a fit.

My theme was chocolate... so it was chocolate cake, chocolate fountain, a room of dessert, Candy buffet, even the entrance was a HUGE chocolate bar with our names (the 5lbs one) and the place cards were mini candy bars.. the wrappers had the names and tables. The invites were even chocolate bars the golden ticket had all the wedding info on it.

I didn't have a cake, I did a dessert buffet. I hate having people stare at me, so I had no desire to go up and cut a cake while everyone watched.

If we're having a contest, my wedding cake was made in 1988. No digital cameras back then. Geez I feel old.

I owned a bakery cafe and baked my own cake - chocolate! Iced with vanilla buttercream and decorated with little pink piggy cookies all around the tiers and two little piggies as the topper. My husband was a cop.

I don't have electronic pictures of mine. I was married in 1983 icon_biggrin.gif. Here's what I remember, though. It was done by a home baker that my DH's family knew. I have NO IDEA if that was legal at the time in Massachusetts icon_surprised.gif. It was 3 tiers with 4 or 5 small cakes as the bottom, kind of like satellite cakes but the tiers were on top of them. No fountains, no plastic columns, no little bridesmaids on stairs, all of which were very popular at the time. It was all buttercream, with pink roses and I loved it.

It was a marble cake and had a strawberry filling and was served as dessert with fresh strawberries. We were the first in our circle of friends/family to actually serve the cake as dessert. It was usually sent home in little waxed paper bags along with the favors. People were shocked icon_eek.gif! We like to think of ourselves as trendsetters icon_rolleyes.gif.

I was married on December 26, 1992. There is so much about that day that I really can't remember. I actually just pulled my wedding album off the shelf to see what my cake looked like. It was 3 tiers on pillars with 4 heart-shaped satellite cakes around it. I remember that it was white cake with buttercream icing. I was living in Houston at the time but got married in Iowa. My mother and mother-in-law pretty much planned the whole thing ... we just showed up, said "I do," and then went back to Texas. I know that my DH's aunt made the cake, but I don't remember what it tasted like.

I really wasn't in to the whole big wedding thing. I bought my dress off the wrack and had my sister stand up with me. My mother had an alteration business at the time and worked with the local bridal shops. She actually traded a washer and dryer with one of the owners for my sisters dress and my head piece. My mother-in-law worked at a floral shop, so they made my flowers for me for free.

The wedding itself was pretty inexpensive ... but the marriage has been rich. We will celebrate 19 years this Christmas and he's still my best friend.

And believe me, I won't be offended if you find my cake tacky. icon_smile.gif

It actually came about as a joke in a weird way. My dad has always bought me cow dolls since I was a little girl. It was kind of our thing. My friend from AL was talking about a wedding she had been to there and they actually had a cow shaped cake. Now, that was a little tacky to me, but honestly to each their own. My only goal for my entire wedding day was to have a party in the country with my friends, and let everyone just have a day to relax and be happy. It was laid back, people wore jeans, we danced all afternoon, and had the time of our lives. I didn't care about the flowers, the cake, we had a huge steak cookout for the reception... it was wonderful. So the cake was humorous, and the lady at my church who made it as a gift just couldn't believe I was serious when I told her what I wanted. We have a bull and heifer on top as cake toppers. And yes, I heard a few people whispering about it at the reception. I just handed them another glass of wine and went on my way! I wish every bride a day (and marriage) as wonderful and happy as mine, and cake that tastes as fabulous as mine did. icon_smile.gif

I forgot to add that my wedding cake was not traditional at all. It was a carved cake made to look like a white a purple mountain with a purle and silver castle and a purple and blue topper of a dragon and fairy. I can't find my pictures but it was beautiful! White almond cake and vanilla buttercream.

I just found a picture of what the topper looked like:

I got married February 2005 at home with a few close family members and friends. My mother made the cake. I wanted a 10 inch square white cake with strawberry filling. I got buttercake with apricot filling (my mother was always one to do her own thing lol) I cant stand apricots...blegh.

It was small but very happy and we took everyone to dinner at a fabulous steakhouse afterwards --- looking for the picture now and will post when i find it. thumbs_up.gif

I got married last year in July. I ordered our cake from a bakery. I remember when we arrived at the site ( which was our house) and I saw the cake I wasn't that impressed. It looked the way it should have but I just wasn't "wowwed" by it. The best part was our topper. A few months after I took my first decorating class at Micheals I actually applied for and started working for the bakery that made our cake. I don't anymore but I learned that they only used box mixes for thier cakes. I was taken back by that fact since I paid so much for it. At the time I didn't realize that bakeries use them. I assumed that bakeries in general baked from scratch. But if I knew then what I know now then my cake would have looked totally different.

My wife choose the design and I made the cake when we were married on December 28, 1974. She wanted a square cake so I did three tiers, 6, 10 and 14". The top tier was raised on 5" pillars. It was all white cake and buttercream icing. Tiers were decorated with lattice garlands and scroll work in white buttercream. My wife carried holly and white roses on a prayer book. To carry out the theme I used white buttercream roses, and real holly in the area of separation and around the base of the cake. The topper was a bowl of holly centered with a silver wedding cross-a plain cross centered with intertwined wedding bands.

We got married in May of 2003. I made my own cake. It was the first cake Id ever made besides putting a boxed mix in a 9x13 baking dish and covering it with canned frosting. I got some help from some ladies at the Wilton message board (but most were very blunt in saying I was stupid for even attempting to make it myself with no experience). My biggest help was running into a decorator at Hobby Lobby in the cake aisle. I picked her brain about what I needed for this and that and she was sooooo helpful and VERY happy to answer all my questions. I thought the cake turned out pretty good for my first. It was all vanilla, no filling (I didnt know anything about torting and filling back then) with basket weave on the outside of each tier. My theme was daisies and because we got married right after Memorial Day all the florists and stores in the city were discounting all their floral arrangements. I bought up bunches of them and tore the daisies out of them and used them in all my decorations and on my cake.

I got married on August 5, 1995! I don't have any digital images of my cake. I actually had to dust off the ole wedding album to have a look! I was 21 when I got married and had a pretty tight budget. My hubby and I paid for the whole thing ourselves. And considering we both come from sizable Italian families, that says a lot! Anyway, I was working for a design company at the time, and was able to arrange a trade for my cake. I did some work for a catering company, and they gave me a cake!! That said, I was able to give them my wedding colours and the Flavours I wanted, and that's it! No tasting, no choice of style, I got what I got. It ended up being a round three tier cake. The top tier rested on columns. The topper was a plastic bride and groom. The cake was covered in buttercream roses and scrollwork. It tasted ok and looked ok. To be honest, at the time it wasnt a priority. If I were to renew my vows... Say at 25 years... My cake would be the centre of attention!! Lol
