Can anyone tell me if it is ok to use homemade frosting to make cake pops??

I don't see why not. I have heard of people using other stuff as a "binder"....I think someone said they used flavored creamers...???

Yes, it is. You can use anything you want as binder: frosting, creamer, liquer, etc. My favorite thing to use are coffee syrups. The gingerbread one is really yummy at christmas time.
