Hopefully this will be a quick question....Is there a particular direction to smooth fondant once its applied to the cake?
Upwards? Downwards? Anywards?
I wouldn't want to thin out the fondant or cause undue pressure to cause tears!
You don't put a lot of pressure on the fondant when you're using a smoother or you will thin it and cause tearing. I usually go over the top in a circular motion and on the sides I hold the smoother in place and then spin the turntable.
Thanks Mexx...I tried that and so far no tears and no cracks! I kind of got the hang of it in a few seconds...you kind of find a rhythm that works.
