Can anyone tell me if this recipe needs refrigeration or not? I only usually work with meringue based icings but wanted to try a fudgey chocolatey one.

If it does require refrigeration, does anyone know of a good recipe which doesn't?

With 1 cup of heavy cream, I would keep refrigerated. If you want a good chocolate frosting I just use a basic buttercream, add a good quality cocoa powder and strong coffee to replace th liquids.

I didn't want to make a buttercream which was crisco/butter + Powdered sugar + cocoa powder + liquids. I'm not keen on ABC buttercream, though I've never tried it with the addition of cocoa powder. Does it turn out like a fudgey icing? The sort you get when you have a chocolate fudge cake from a restaurant?

The chocolate bc recipe on the back of the Hershey's cocoa can is fudgey and good. I don't refrigerate it, and it does fine.
