is there a way to make the cartoon characters I'm making glossy? They look a bit dull and I would love the bright colors to stand out. Hopefully this would make my amateur skills look a bit better LOL

Try rubbing them with some shortening

On fondant I have used a 50/50 mix of light corn syrup and vodka (or vanilla extract, which ever you prefer). Brushed on, it will give a nice sheen that dries without being sticky. I have tried both of these alone and they did not work well but they work together really well.

You could also try steaming them!

Confectionery glaze or tylose glue...tylose and water mixed together. Look up tylose glue on the net.
