I would like to replicate this cake, but have no idea how to attach the bow without it actually needing to rest on the tier. My fear is that the gumpaste will be too heavy and fall off, or worse, rip the Fondant below.

I am pretty new at this, so I'd like to draw on all the experience my fellow CCers have to offer!! Thanks in advance!

I have made bows like this and used a pasta machine getting it down to the thinnest number so it is the lightest bow it can be, almost like real fabric, and then add to the cake with melted white candy melts. If you are still worried you can always put in a cake dowl and glue to the bow onto it. HTH.

You should be able to attach the bow with little alchahol. Just make the bow ahead of time so that it can dry, at least 3 to 5 days. Then you can just brush the back with alchahol, I use vodka and and it will stick. You might have to hold it for a minute but it will stay. Here are a couple I did that way.
