What's the best way to get a gold cake? I'm trying to convince the bride that a white cake with gold accents might look better than an entire gold cake. I hope she goes with that, but if she doesn't, I have to figure out the best way to make a gold cake. I've tried Americolor gold colour and it looks like dark yellow mustard, yuck. I've made a gold crown before using gum paste and gold lustre spray and it turned out great (the gumpaste was hard though), but when I tried the spray on fondant, it kind of beaded on top. I have a feeling that an airbrush would do the same thing, I'll be trying my friend's airbrush next week to try it. Has anyone done a gold cake? If so, what did you use to get an even finish? Thanks!

Color your frosting a golden yellow and either air brush with gold or gold pearl spray works well.

I made a gold cake for a 50th anniversary not too long ago. I airbrushed it with gold pearl. http://cakecentral.com/gallery/2092505
