I am wanting to take advantage of the $.59 americolor color gels. But what colors would you recommend? I just make cakes for practice for now, and I am just wanting to expand my collection of colors.

So far I have (all .5oz wilton gels)
~Brown
~Golden Yellow
~Lemon Yellow
~Burgundy
~Copper
~No-Taste Red
~Pink *1 oz*
~ Kelly Green
~Black
~Violet
~Leaf Green
~Red-Red *1oz*
~Teal
~Royal Blue
~Sky Blue
~Yellow

The only 2 colors I'm pretty sure I'm going to get are the Bright White and the Black. Any reviews on the White?

I use all of the amincolors and I think they are great. They are always easy to use and the white helps with that white look especially in fondant and black is nice too. Don't really have to use that much either.

I like the white for painting...I've even painted on colored fondant with it, in small amounts.

I have the BIG bottles of white, black, green, and the primaries (red, blue, yellow). With that, of course, you could theoretically create any color you want! But for convenience I also have, in the regular little bottles, a couple of different shades of orange, "egg yellow", violet, "regal purple", several different shades of green, a couple of blues, "chocolate brown", ivory, and "deep pink." Um, and mauve, and possibly some other things I'm forgetting. icon_lol.gif

Ivory and pink together make a good (fair) skin color, and I often use different shades of green and brown for grass/leaves/trees. Blue and green are favorite colors in my family, so it's good to have a variety of those. Pinks and purples tend to come in handy for girly birthday cakes, and for some reason orange tends to come up a lot in my designs, for both boy and girl birthday themes and for more adult-oriented designs.

Anyway, if you are wanting to get colors that are different from the Wilton you already have, I'd suggest trying any or all of the "electric" colors, orange, forest green, fuchsia or deep pink, turquoise, navy blue, ivory or peach or mauve. Maybe terracotta (reddish orange) or one of the other red shades.

Thanks everyone. I'm definately getting the white and black. And I think electric purple, blue, pink and maybe super red? Hmmm...

Where is this great price available? I'm looking to buy colors for the first time. Sounds like a good price to stock up on.

I would try the electric colors & as you said super red & black they go a long way... they are more concentrated than the Wilton ones, I've tried both Wilton & Americolor & there's a huge difference between the two, right now whenever I have a chance to get Americolors I get even though I still have some Wilton colors.
Believe me when you try them you are going to do the same icon_biggrin.gif
Good luck icon_smile.gif

I LOVE LOVE LOVE americolors. The super black and super red are a must. They make true red and true black (not those weird off shades). I love the white too but I can never find it in the big size! I have the 4.5 bottles of all the basics and the minis (3/4 oz) of the electrics and less popular colors. The electric pink is great and I like the electric blue too. I like using lemon yellow and a touch of leaf green over using the electric green. The americolors work so much better than wilton for me. buy them all icon_wink.gif
