A customer requested a two tier cake for his mothers 88th birthday showcasing major milestones in her life.
The client wants the following included in the cake:
Stores that she owned or something related to it:
He also wanted me to include an idea around a slot machine as she loves the slot machines PLUS something about his deceased father and to include the old house his dad and mom lived in together before his dad died..
Sounds like a lot going on for one cake. I'm also having a hard time finding colors that will tie in and a main backgrown color for the cake...YIKES! Any ideas??
I'm just going to throw the first idea that came to my mind out. You could have a road connecting the two tiers and have the different shops along the way...maybe have the house on top or also along the way to the top. As for the slot machine...maybe a casino also along the road? Hope that helps!
Is there any way you could get photos of some of these things, like store fronts, her favorite photo of her husband, her at the slots, their house...then you could mix edible images of these things with gum paste or fondant figures of others. Maybe this could be incorporated with some other ideas.
Gum paste/fondant figures: Shoe, lots of different candy's like lolipops sticking out of the top tier, peppermints, chocolate bars... Realtor yard sign, slot machine... Things like this could be on a road like princess_09 said.
First thing that comes to my mind is a wig (on a mannequin head or maybe just laying beside) and a shoe/shoebox on the top. Then the house resting on the ledge between the tiers with maybe dad's face in the window (or mom and dad done in gumpaste and sitting with their legs hanging over the edge?). Then some slot machine and real estate cut outs on the sides of the 2 tiers (triple sevens? for sale signs?). I would use candies as the borders.
It's a rough idea but maybe you could tweak it a little...anyway, hope it helps.
I don't really have any great ideas to add but reading this just made me laugh. People expect miracles made out of cake. I think it's all the cake shows on tv that's doing it. Remember back when a Holly Hobby cake was about as fancy as you got for a birthday cake? Maybe you don't. Maybe I'm just old. Not saying I don't enjoy making them fancy! Good luck! I do like the idea of the road with the storefronts. Whatever you decide, I'm curious to see what it turns out like - post a picture!
