A friend is having a 40th birthday party for her ecletic fiance. She has asked for a buttercream cake that can have some decorations that can somehow include an ascot and/or an english gentelman theme to it. It should completley contradict his fun, artistic, T-shirt and shorts type of personality. I was thinking that maybe I could do a two tiered cake. The top tier a 6 in round with an ascot made out of fondant wrapped around it and drapping down the front. I was also thinking of maybe making a small gumpaste top hat to go on top of the 6 in cake. Does that sound "gentelman" enough? I would appreciate any ideas you guys have! Thanks

I think your idea sounds adorable and I would run with it. I love the idea of both the ascot and the top hat.
I could picture the ascot around the cake as soon as you mentioned it.
Dont' for get some kind of glitzy tie clip!

how about a shirt cake...I would use that as search word...they make a lot for fathers day...you could make the tie out of chocolate on wax paper cut in the shape of a tie and use one of the many candy transfer sheets for your design on the chocolate tie...how fun.
