I got an interesting request for a baby shower cake. The baby's name will be Penny and they are colors of the party will be lilac and brown and of course pennies will be part the decorations. I have a few ideas, but was looking for more.

Any thoughts?

That is a tough one. Very unique.

All that comes to me is Pennies from Heaven.
Maybe cover the cake brown and use lavender dots or striping on the sides. I can picture a baby sleeping on top and an umbrella ( it is a shower, right ) with fondant pennies on wires like it is raining.

Do you know the mom-to-be's religion? I would hesitate to use the "from heaven" idea if you don't. But of course that phrase *is* the first thing that comes to mind in connection with pennies and babies.

Round cake decorated to look like a big penny, stuffed full of real pennies. I doubt you'd want the shower guests choking on pennies, but you could certainly do a round cake like that with light purple flowers around it or something like that.

This was a 60th birthday cake with 60 cents on the cake -- maybe you could adapt that somehow to make the pennies add up to the due date?

I used the baby mold from first impressions. The icing in lilac (hard to tell in the picture). The ribbon and bow are a mix of Chocolate Brown Fondant and Copper colored fondant. The ribbon and bow have a light dusting of copper luster dust. The pennies are copper colored fondant cut out one by one with a round tip. I then painted the pennies with copper luster dust.
