Substitute For Baking Soda???

Scratch Bakers:
Pls Help! I am out of baking soda and need to make this cake tonight! The recipe calls for 1 1/2 tsp of Bkg Soda and all I have is Bkg Pwder. The recipe also calls for Bkg Pwdr. Can I use more? Please help! ASAP

Forget this.. It's not worth messing up my recipe for 79 If anyone does know the answer, I'll still be interested for next time icon_smile.gif

substitute 1 tsp baking soda with 2 tsp of double-acting baking powder plus replace the acidic liquid ingredient in the recipe with a non-acidic liquid.

I think this also depends on the recipe.

There is no way you could replace the chocolate in a recipe. Also too much BP and you get a soapy taste. Your best bet is to run to a store! I made a chocolate cupcake recipe last week. I'm chatting away while putting it together and totally missed that I put in baking powder instead of soda. The cupcakes never rose and had a hallow center that came from the bottom up. I stood there scratching my head wondering why my recipe didn't work and that is when I noticed the PB sitting on the counter.

I chalked it up to a learning experience and made another batch. They came out beautiful with the right ingredients.
