Hi friends! I'm going to be making a lot of candy for my upcoming wedding reception (we are doing a candy buffet), and I was wondering if anyone had ever tried to pour fudge into a candy mold. I have read some recipes where people used a cookie cutter on the finished fudge, and I could do that as a last resort - but molding it would be so much easier! I was thinking silicone molds would be easiest, and I have several heart-shaped ice cube trays from the dollar store that would be perfect.

Anybody ever tried this? Did it work? Is it a terrible idea? I thought I'd ask the experts here before trying it out.

I don't see why this wouldn't work once you have done all the steps you need to get the fudge where it needs to be. Once it's done, you still have to let it set, so why not let it set in a mold? I think it would look very pretty. Of course, I love to experiment - last Christmas, I made individual brownies in my cupcake tins to avoid the bother of cutting them afterwards and so they'd have a nice shape to decorate. It worked like a charm and I'm sure this will, too. You might want to whip up a small batch before you start in big to see if it really works, though.

Done it--- works fine, but I used the "softer" silicone forms rather than the bit harder ones used for ice cubes.

Watch out for the nuts--- it ruins the shape. I resorted to pouring a bit of "nut free" to coat the bottom (which becomes then a smooth top), and then poured in the rest of the nutty fudge (i LOVE nuts).

Did you use the Wilton Silicone Brownie Squares Baking Mold?  Just wondering.

I have not used the Wilton brownie molds. Used some from the dollar store, some snowflake ones, all sizes... The harder ones are from IKEA for ice cubes.

I've made chocolates using the silicone molds - a couple of different kinds but mostly the flexible ones. Works great, I've just poured tempered chocolate in and let set up in the fridge and then popped out. The only thing I would watch out for is getting the fudge out of the molds. If the molds are intricate and/or deep, it can be tricky getting the pieces out and since fudge is not rock hard, it may smoosh a little. But if you have hearts, those should work fine.
