I don't have gum paste, but wanted to do some fondant flowers (my first) for a cake tomorrow. It's last minute, and it's not an important cake, so I'm not worried about perfection--just practice.

I was wondering if anyone has ever added meringue powder to fondant to get it to harden more like gum paste. Would this work?

I don't think meringue powder would help it harden.

If you roll your fondant thin and do the flowers right now, the fondant might dry enough overnight.

Or if you have some tylose or gum-tex, knead that into the fondant and it will work for sure.

I've made flowers out of fondant the night before. They harden fine as long as it's rolled out thin as Texas-Rose said.

You can use Tylose or gumtex.

I'm so proud icon_smile.gif These are my first attempts at fondant flowers and I'm thrilled! Granted, some of them are just completely made up, but the roses and lilies are good, I think!
