Help A Newbie. Pom Pom Substitute

Hey there.
I'm looking to make a moogle (character of final fantasy) cake for a friend.
Having a problem of what to do with the pom pom on his head though.
My plan is for a laying down cake with a moogle shape, slightly rounded. Was going to have a red sparkler sticking out his head for the pom pom, but i live in NZ and its illegal to buy/sell these not during guy fawkes.
If anyone has any suggestions as to what i could use instead, it would be much appreciated.

Just looks like it could be RKT covered in fondant to me. Looked like a ball from the picture.

I'm with Leah. I always use RKT for a ball. I have no idea why it's easier for me, but it is.
