Hello - I went to a bridal shower today and they had bought cupcakes from a local chain that specializes in cupcakes. The aesthetics weren't anything special, but oh my, were they good. The chocolate frosting especially.

I have got to try to replicate this frosting. It was piped on with the round ropey-style tip (sorry), and firmed up enought to keep its shape, but was so smooth and velvetty. I think it is some type of chocolate fudge, but when I went to the recipe tab, I couldn't really find a recipe that could be piped.

Does anyone have a chocolate frosting recipe that is definatly not buttercream, but more rich and smooth?

Thanks so much! I'm not obsessive over it! Ha!

Whipped ganache is great. Make the ganache, then when cool, whip it with whisk attachment. I used this on cupcakes, and it made a great swirl.

I agree with FromScratchSF... smooth and velvety... sure sounds like it.
