I'm making some big cakes for this weekend and would like to find a recipe that will fill a 16" square pan...it takes at least 3 box cakes and should probably use 4...it's for 200 ppl. First time making a cake for this many people...any comments would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Everything you need to know to make, decorate and assemble tiered/stacked/layer cakes:

The above super thread has doctored cake mix recipes (WASC with flavor variations) which should work well in your situation.

Using DH white cake mix, Rebecca Sutterby's recipe will yield a tad over 14 cups of batter.

For a 16" square you definately need 4 mixes. I suggest mixing two at a time so there is enough room in the mixer bowl for proper mixing w/o overloading it or causing spillage - YUCK what a big mess it can be. No extra ingredients or special recipe would be needed. One can easily mix 2 batters in a 5 qt KA mixer. If you are using a hand held mixer it probably is best to mix each of the mixes alone.
