Hi there,
I have frozen cakes alot. I did my Sons wedding cake 2 months in advance. after it cooled I wrapped it real well in saran wrap then foil. All of my cakes have turned out great. When my Son and his bride cut and ate the cake you can hear on the home video wow this is really moist. I'm doing my daughters cake in Aug. and will do the same. Good luck

Agreeing wholeheartedly with previous poster. Freezing cakes is a godsend. Makes for super moist yumminess. I've done it several times. Wrap in saran, then I double-layer in foil. Make sure your freezer is free of anything that may let off "smells" on your cakes, though.
