What is the best way to attach fondant to a cake dummy?

Hi there, I always use water, when I cover the cake dummies in fondant. You also can use piping gel too.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if I should paint the cake dummy gold or just cover it with fondant. I will be using the cake dummy to elevate the cake so I can place satellite cakes around the base. The colors are Ivory fondant, gold ribbon and a teal bead border. Do you think I should use the Ivory fondant to help it blend in or would a gold cake dummy accent the cake more. Thank you for your help.
