Has anyone tried the Wilton 3-D Easter Egg Cake Pan? (I mean the one with two halves with no pan-impressed decoration.) How did it go? Have any trouble getting it to cook evenly? Did the cake need support to stand on end once you got it out of the pans and glued it together? Did you decorate with buttercream or fondant? Any other tips?

Once I iced it together I trimmed the bottom so it was flat. I also inserted 2 wooden skewers into it in a X pattern. I don't know if it made a difference or not but the eggshell parts were fondant (at the bottom and tip) so that may have helped hold it together. I was worried about it so kept it chilled but it made the 1/2 hour trip to my mom's house for Easter. We didn't cut it so it spent the night with her and went with her to a luncheon the next day and it survived fine. Her friends loved it.
Bottom line? I was very pleased.
