I'm pretty new to cake decorating and I made my first 3layer cake today with fondant. I'm having a problem getting it not to have wrinkles aroud the sides. Any tips?
Only work about 1" down all the way around the cake at a time. Smooth it top to bottom, and lots of practice. Make sure your fondant isn't to thin or it may crack or rip on you.
There are sooo many videos on YouTube that you could watch. Sorry I don't have an exact one to suggest.
One way is to Raise the cake up Put it on something just smaller in diameter than the cake is = like for an 8 or 10" cake I put it on a Crisco can. Cover cake so the excess hangs down beyond the cake board and cut it off. You can use a sharp knife or scissors.
That's just one of several different ways to handle the problem.
