I just try to get a true red for a superman logo. I tried everything and end up with a purple. How do I get true colors like red and black. My black is usually grey. I work mostly with buttercream. Thanks for the help.

Americolor Red Red should give you a clear, true red. Sounds as if you might have mixed some colors; if any blue is added to red you get purple.

Oops. I just noticed you also asked about black. If your icing is gray you just need to add more food color. Also, if you start with a chocolate buttercream it doesn't take as much black color to get a deep black icing.

I Use Duff Goldmans Lobsta Red and Vinyl Black love it. Mix the colors let it set about a 1/2 hour and great reds and blacks. I get mine through DecoPac
Comes in a toothpaste like tube. Very reasonable.

I start with chocolate buttercream. I add a little white butter cream until it is just a tan color & then I start adding my red. Here is my Superman cake...
