How Do I Make A Dummy Cake For Butterceam Covering?

I am making my first wedding cake this summer and I was thinking of making the bottom two tiers dummy cakes. The whole cake is going to be covered in buttercream. How do I make the dummy bases to cover them in icing? I have no idea where to start or what to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You don't need to make them, you can purchase styrofoam cake dummies.

You will ice the purchased dummies just like you ice the cake. The only difference is that I use a couple of pieces of double face tape to secure the dummy to the turn tabke so it doesn't slide while I am icing the dummy. Good luck!

You can purchase Styrofoam cake dummies at cake supply stores or order them online.

That seemed like a simple answer, but I just hadn't needed to use one and didn't know where everyone was getting them. ha ha ha!! Thanks everyone!
