I need to carve a skull cake (because no one has the cake pan I want to use) and don't really know how to start. It doesn't need to be very big. But I'm not sure how much detail I need to carve out and how much I can just paint on the surface. It will be covered with black fondant and have only silver details. I am using the silver for the outlines only, around the eyes, the teeth, mouth, etc. If I just paint the teeth on will it look ok, or should I try to make indentions on the cake before covering? Or maybe I should make teeth with fondant and place on top? What shape of cake should I start with? HELP PLEASE!!!
