Most of the gumpaste flower making books i have ask for stiff wire but what exactly is the gauge number for those or at least what kind of wires do you usually use? Thanks.

I usually use 20 gauge or a little thinner for my stems. "Stiff" means stiff enough to hold the weight of the flowers but not so stiff that you can't bend it to the form you need for the cake. You might have to go to a hardware store and check out what different gauges feel like before you can pick out one you like.

I have used 18 in the past , the lower the number , the stronger the wire

Thanks, wiggler. that's what I couldn't remember - whether the higher number meant thicker or thinner!
