Question: I'm making a cake that requires a beach umbrella, and am going to use a sucker stick for the pole, but not sure what to use to secure it to the underneath...help!

Thanks,
Lori
ps: I made the umbrella from fondant

I would not try to attach the stick directly to the umbrella. I would take a ball of gumpaste, apply a little gum glue to the stick and insert the stick into the ball. Then mold the ball to form a surface that would fit to the inside of the umbrella. Let it dray at least overnight. Then you can place the umbrella top upside down and gum glue you stick pop into place and let it dry at least several hours before turning right side up.

This method will give the stick something to form a solid bond with (the inside of the ball) and then the ball will give you a good amount of surface area to adhere the umbrella to, rather than just to the point of a stick.

Hope that's clear.
