I would like to decorate an angel food cake, does anyone have a suggeation of what kind of frosting to use? Also, my niece wants fresh bananas in the filling, any suggestions?

I'd probably slice the cake horizontally into two and then scoop out a little tunnel to fill with heavenly goodness. Angel food cake is so deliciously light that I'd probably do a simple mixture of whipped topping, instant banana cream pudding mix, and fold in some sliced bananas and then put that in the little tunnel or trench you dug. Then I'd restack the top back on the cake.
I've never put icing on an angel food cake but that doesn't mean you can't But I'd want something really subdued, maybe whipped cream based or even SMBC, which will definitely give you that icing feed but is much lighter and not nearly as sweet as regular icings.
