I am doing my first wedding this summer & the bride has decided on a 3 tier cake but needs to feed 150. We agreed on doing a kitchen cake along with the 3 tier cake. The wedding caked will be covered in MMF. Should I also cover the kitchen cake in fondant to resemble the wedding cake or is just buttercream the norm? Thanks in advance.

Kitchen cakes are supposed to cost less and be simpler - which is why they cost less. Not only do I restrict them to bc, they don't get smooth bc.
