Our local newspaper ran an article about this new business near my home. If you have a couple of minutes, check it out. I'd appreciate any thoughts on this idea. I thought it was pretty cool. I will definitely be checking it out. Wonder if the owners are CC members, hmmmm.

I found their website to be very difficult to read. The font is incredibly small. I gave up reading. Another problem is that they have no pictures of their product.

Might be a good idea, but without seeing what the product is, I won't be visiting their store.

Horrible set-up on the website, I couldn't get a photo to come up...

Are they cake shooters:

Ooh it hurts my head

scp1127 Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 2:47am

A scratch half sheet cake for 41.00? All that ganache, buttercream... I don't see it.

Site was terrible.

Torea Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 2:56am

Great idea! I think I'll stop by this weekend to check it out. The only thing missing is ice cream...

Kristie925 Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 3:27am

Their site is cute, but that's the only thing going for it. It was hard to navigate and the fonts were awful. I couldn't find a picture of the 'cake in a cup' thing.

leah_s Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 3:36am

ugh! The misspelled words! The over use of !! The small font!

They're selling cake balls!

warchild Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 3:53am

Website is horrible. As a a person with Epilepsy, websites designed this way are extremely hard to look at without causing an instant headache and oftentimes dizziness.

I had to click off so didn't have a chance to check it out much at all. Hopefully they'll get some feedback from people who have, and make some much needed changes.

crisseyann Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 3:58am

Oh indeed! The site was incredibly poorly done. I didn't want to go slamming it, not knowing if the owners could be members of CC. The article just caught my eye as showing a new idea that may be something fun and different. Some of the flavor combos sounded yummy. Yeah....no pictures was for sure a downfall to the site. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

I was about to have a hissy! I have been working on opening Cupcakes Divine, The Original Cupcake Bar for almost a year now. We have plans of having multiple locations corporately and franchise opportunities across the country soon after our 3rd corporate store opens. I have been very hush hush about this idea because there is nothing like it anywhere (that I know of).

The premise is it is a cupcake bar. Cupcakes are uniced, we offer 10 cake flavors each day with a few that rotate daily. There are custom flavor creations that you can choose from or you can create your own flavor combinations with 14 different buttercreams, 2 ganaches, many different fillings and toppings. An "Icingologist" is there to help each customer create their cupcake fantasy. I have been doing these "bars" as a catered affair for about 2 years now and so wanted to take it to the next level. People LOVE this idea.

The only reason I am even talking about it now is because we are opening in a few weeks. The trademark is being filed early next week.

I have been so wrapped up in this project that I haven't been on here much. And the web about it is just a page that is a part of my regular website. We are in the process of creating a separate site away from the parent company. Have a feeling this is going to be much bigger than the custom cake biz I already have.

At any rate I was thinking I had been scooped!...LOL!

FromScratchSF Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 4:28am

It's got potential as a website, but it looks like it's a premade template that they are using without coding properly to their content.

I also don't get the premise of their shop - aren't they just making regular cake but calling it "cake in a cup"? dunce.gif

Agree that its a bad website. I couldn't even FIND a pic of a cake in a cup, so I've no idea what they are selling. All of the moving graphics are annoying.

But cake in a cup is not new to me .... I've made cake in a cup before. baked a cupcake-size amt of batter in a big tall coffee mug. After its baked, I topped it with fudge (used the Hershey fudge topping that you use on top of ice cream), then topped THAT with baked merinque. Served it straight from the oven with one of those pirouline cookies tucked in it and everyone swooned!

(good timing! I'm having someone over for lunch soon and I was stuck for a dessert! NOW I know what I'm making!)

mim1106 Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 5:19am

I think they mean "cupcake"...you know. Cake in a cup. LOL

silverdragon997 Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 5:41am

I googled Cake in a Cup, and the site that came up is for a cupcake shop in Toledo, Ohio with the same name. I assume they realized that someone else was using the name, and that's why they couldn't get the website without the 1 in front of it? Why would they use the same business name? I wonder if the first one did any trademarking or copyrighting or whatever...

scp1127 Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 6:21am

cakesdivine, I am like you... original concept not done before. We are ready to file our trademark also. Are you having an attorney file? We are having an attorney do it after I found that if it's wrong, you lose the filing fee.

This is the reason I have no website posted and no pictures. I never talk specifically about my business. I'm not even doing it after the trademark filing. I can still be loosely copied and I'm not putting it on a worldwide site. I have other locations that I want.

doramoreno62 Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 8:05am

Hmmm, I tried the link and all I got was a black page. Maybe they read on CC what bad website it was and now they are fixing it?

It was a blank for me the first time too. Just do it two times in a row.

leah_s Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 11:05am

Really? You guys can't see pictures? 'Cause I see cake balls.

crisseyann Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 11:21am

Yes, Leah. I was able to see the cakeballs. Very poor picture, but they were there.

online_annie Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 11:32am

I too have been offering the same type service as cakesdivine for several years now. I do alot of events for children and it works wonderfully. Inspiration for this came to me when I was visiting Arizona in the 90's. Came across a Cold Stone Creamery and thought...wow...this would work with cake too! Just like a cold stone creamery, the customer picks the flavors and you put it together on the spot. Combinations are limitless, like a trifle or sundae bar. I believe that if cakesdivine pushes this through, she will be very successful! So Don't Stop!! I know I would be interested in franchise information when it comes available and I'm sure many others would too.

Love2BakeCakes Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 12:40pm

The second I realized there were no pics I did not want to go any further.

Sangriacupcake Posted 28 Apr 2011 , 1:14pm

I've seen "cake in a jar" treats that are circles of cake layered with fillings and icing in a pint or half pint canning jar. They weren't baked in the jars, just presented in them....very cute because you could see the layers. It was at a boutique bakery in NYC, sorry I can't remember the name. Perhaps this is something similar but in a cup?? But how can we know without pictures or even a good description of the product? That website bites.

There is a cupcake bar like that here in NYC. You pick the cake, They ice it with what you want and you pick a topping. Not sure of the name but I think its in Harlem
