hi everyone,

i know there are tons of vanilla icing recipes here, but i am curious which ones taste like the white vanilla icing (maybe a butter cream with just white cooloring?) like they have at the grocery store? i just need this basic recipe and don't know which to try???

i'd love your helpicon_smile.gif!

Grocery stores use lots of different icings, so it's hard to know what you mean. Some use all-shortening buttercream and some use a more whipped-cream like icing, which is probably Rich's Bettercreme or something similar. There are probably lots of other possibilities, as well, but these are the two I know of. Whatever it is, it's sure to be something cheap and bad for you (which doesn't mean they can't be delicious!).

Marianna46 is right. Each grocery store uses something different. It could be something they purchase totally ready to use or they could make it themselves.
It could be all shortening, like she said, or part shortening, part butter.
Maybe if you mention the name of the store - is it a chain that is rather well known? Someone might know what they use.
