Tiered Cake

Is it necessary to put a dowel in a cake that is only 2 tiers? 10" bottom 3 layers - 8" top layer.

I would say if you are going to travel with it, I would, just to keep it steady...

I always do, even if I'm only traveling 3 miles with it.
Better safe than sorry.
