This Is Only Possible With My Type Of Luck....

Next time I need to make an important cake, I'm not gonna tell my cake board.....
My best friend needed a birthday cake. Her mom is very neat and she wanted to have a perfect looking cake. My friend didn't like the taste of her "perfect cakes" and begged her mom to let me make it for her. I was soo excited, but also very nervous because her mother is kind of scary.
I made a cherry cake with a filling of chopped up cherries and chocolate. I decorated it and I got it ready to go. No problems. The cake was pretty and it didn't have anything wrong with it. BUT as I am walking out the door to go, The bottom of the cake board just completely rips and half and the whole cake just falls.....OMG.
The cake board was a little old but it was perfectly fine when I started. I had both my hands holding it and I know it wasn't the weight of the cake because it was a very small cake.
Well, now I'm left with a pile of mush and an angry mom. I ran out and got a generic pre-made cake. Now I look like a (mod edited) 13 year old who is completely failing at her dream..
But whatever. Mistakes happen I guess. I'm gonna run a batch of cherry cupcakes over and hope the mother is to angry.
Wow, you are only 13 making cakes!?! I hate this happened to you! I wish my hands moved as quickly as I am thinking sometimes..I have dropped a cake, not any cake, my daughters birthday cake Luckily it fell on the shelf in the fridge and only damage to the icing, so I scraped it off and started over...Keep your chin up!! I always use at least 2 cardboards under my cakes, and they are wrapped with fanci foil. (the wrap for cake boards, kinda like wrapping paper) If your board was not wrapped, moisture may have gotten to it, causing it to be weak and tear like that! You gotta keep them boards from getting wet! I bet those will be the best tasting cuppies any 13 year old I know could make! Good luck with them! Please don't get discouraged! I hope to see you on food network one day sharing your stories of being a young baker
OOpps hehe! BRAIN FART! hahahahahhahahah!!! Hey it happens...
Hmm well reading it again...I guess she could be 13!!! OP...how old are you? haha.
I am only 13, but I've made many, many cakes. If there is an age restriction, shh But I have a feeling that it was the moisture that got to it. I have forgotten to wrap the board a few times, but now i know how important that is. Hehe. I think I learn everything the hard way. =)
Roxie , please dont be discouraged ! I have always been an avid cook , even at your age . I have had plenty of disasters . I am only decorating cakes since December , I am 34 ! Bit of a late starter . Cooking has always been a passion for me . If you keep baking and learning you will laugh at this disaster in a few years .

Wow! Hi Roxie! I had NO idea there were so many 13 year olds here on CakeCentral!
Don't worry I had/having (I am in the mids of one in the moment!) plenty of cake disasters as well but we all learn from them and move one right?
karencuppycake - I checked out your blog and your work is fantastic! You should be very very proud of yourself (as I'm sure you are!). I'm super impressed!!!
I just think it is awesome that you've taken on doing cakes, even for other people, at your age! I am inspired by you & wish you all the best!
Roxie, that cake sounds delicious. I love cherry and chocolate. I usually double or triple up my boards or use cake drums for that extra security. That's awesome there are so many teen decorators! Keep on caking!
Wow and here I am thinking I was one of the youngest on here at 19!
I think it is awesome that you are getting into serious decorating so young. I have been baking cakes and cookies since I was about 8 but it was more box mix with canned icing on top and that was that, i never even bothered getting it smooth or anything! LOL
I'm sorry this happened to you though! Better luck next time hun
