Should I be mixing the wet ingredients first then add the cake mix and extra flour? I'm trying to eliminate the air holes and spongey texture that I often seem to get with this recipe. TIA

Are you talking about following the gourmet flavors recipes? If so, I shift and add all the dry ingredients, whisk for a minute then add all the wet ingredients and mix on slow for 2 minutes.
