Hi all! I'm making gumpaste tombstones for a graveyard cake. I have them made and I painted them gray. I wanted to dust them with black pearl dust to make them look old and weathered. I can't find any in town. I don't have time to order any either. Is there something similar I can do to get the same effect? They just look so flat right now.........any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Can you just find black powdered food color? If you can you can mix it with some pearl dust and use that. Some cocoa powder would give it a dirty old look too. Maybe paint some black on, then once it dries, put a little cocoa powder to give it the dusty look? Good luck!

A fabulous cake decorator friend uses non-toxic sidewalk chalk, too. Just grate it down to dust and mix with the pearl.
