OK....I'll try one more time. I am really enjoying this thread as buttercream is all that I work with when covering a cake.

Cakewhiz- your cakes are very nice! They are just the kind I like to make, 95% buttercream with 5% fondant icon_lol.gif I like the rounded edges on them too, great work!

OK I'm throwing in my favorite SMBC cake that I made...

http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1939845

The figures are gumpaste (also a 1st), and the black accents are fondant (decaude black SMBC is nasty), but the entire cake is carved and covered in SMBC, all other accents are piped.

Nice job, my husband would LOVE that cake....the figures are so cute...Yoda's expression cracks me up though- he looks surprized to be fighting icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif Seriously though, SMBC is not forgiving and you got those curves and angles to deal with...wow!

99% of all my cakes are iced in buttercream, cream cheese, or chocolate. I use fondant for accents. No one here really likes the taste, texture or expense of fondant cakes, so I work with buttercream icing to give the fondant look. I've done hundreds of outdoor weddings in the Alabama heat and humidity over the years without any problems.

These are two of my favorites: http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1776813

Beautiful! I am terrified of piping those types of scrolls, especially in black!

WOW cakelady2266! That is gorgeous! I totally thought it was fondant!!! Is there a trick to keeping the black icing from bleeding on a white cake? I've always done black and white in fondant and royal since it doesn't bleed.

I am attaching one of my cream cheese iced wedding cakes. Ok so not exactly buttercream, but hey it's cream cheese. Definitely not fondant.

If you want a photo to show up in your post, here's how:
First upload the photo into an online photo site like Photobucket (getting a photobucket account is easy and FREE) then just copy the photo's image code (IMG Code) from photobucket and paste it into your post. Then when you hit 'submit comment' the photo will display in the thread. Easy. thumbs_up.gif

Photobucket is here: http://photobucket.com/

I'm pretty sure you can also use Flickr like this too - just look for the image code (IMG code) and copy and paste it.

LOL...wow Cayman...it might have been easier to just tell us to check out all your pictures icon_lol.gif but your copious examples of BC iced and decorated cakes should help reassure others out there that BC can take humidity and sun (well, sun in small doses!) I can only assume that island weather can be a huge obstacle for cake decorating and you seem to pull it off just fine. thumbs_up.gif
