Best Buttercream Only Cakes

So sorry for the posting overdose! My iPad keep refreshing so I had to do it in small batches! I use a crusting bc, with half butter, half shortening - works fine for outside anytime of year unless there are fruit in the cake or filling. Cream cheese icing is a little bit trickier though! Now that the 'summer weather' is kicking in, I add a tbsp or two of shortening to help make the cream cheese icing more sturdy.
I love your cakes btw Corrie76! I have several of them in my favs!
Here are a few of my favs. I love BC! Love this thread.

Aint that the truth!!!!
I use only buttercream with fondant and gum paste accents...but this is my only completely BC cake. I took a BC course and this was my final cake. ( I had issues with the roses!)

These are two of my cakes that are all buttercream. Not fancy, but not fondant, either!

I've done all bc cakes for years, and I taught for many years! Just had a gal ask me to give her private lessons because while she does quite well in fondant, her basic fondant skills are practically non-existant!
Let's have a "Back to Buttercream Basics" !
Here is my latest all bc tiered cake:

I am loving all the photos!!! These cakes are all so beautiful. I guess I am going to have to make an Easter cake so that I can practice my BC skills!!!!

I don't normally view the photos, and I've never commented on a cake that wasn't in a thread asking for advice, but I remember coming across your cake when it was first uploaded.
I have to say... THIS is my all-time favorite cake! I've only saved ONE cake to my "favorites"--ever, and this is it. It takes a lot to impress me and you definitely did! I hope everyone can appreciate and enjoy it as much as I do. FABULOUS AND OUTSTANDING!
All of these cakes look AMAZING! Of course I love what you can do with fondant, but using BC brings out another skill that is to be admired.
How about we start a thread featureing all the gorgeous cakes decorated only with buttercream? I think we had a thread like this before but I can't find it.

Does anyone by chance know of a really good butter cream recipe? ilton's butter cream recipe does not taste very hot...
Indydebi's Buttercream is yummy and easy to work with:

I love working in buttercream. Fondant is pretty and I do have a hard time with it but I think it's such a waste of money. What do people do with all those things (animals and such) that take so much time to make -- can you keep them forever?
You know who else does GREAT BC cakes is EDNA - I could look at her website all day long.
Here is one of my own favs that I did for my daughters baby shower

If my cakes are going to be in a cool room I use buttercream deam from this site, it tastes so good cause it has butter. Otherwise I use Indydeb's.

I rarely use anything but buttercream. My family loves the taste of Indydebi's icing!
Sugarshack,
All of your cakes are pure perfection! I can only dream of buttercream with a finish like yours. (And I have your bc video. It is amazing, but I'm not.)
Hi redheadfairy - I love your cakes and your use of color flow for the characters! Great job!
Does anyone have good techniques to share to put designs on buttercream iced cakes? I'm not a huge fan of FBCT and would love to explore some other techniques....
