How do you keep up with what's trendy in the cake world? I always here some of the folks on Amazing wedding cakes the term modern. By no means am I an expert decorator like those guys; so how is a little fish in the big pond to keep up with what's happening out there?

Internet: Twitter, Facebook. I signed up to receive daily emails from major wedding websites like The Knot and Martha Stewart like I was a bride and keep extending my "wedding date" so I can get daily emails and their newsletters, and several other websites that are big in my area. I watch tons of cake shows and am constantly looking at online cake galleries.

The CC gallery is one of my favorite places for inspiration. There are also tons of facebook pages and blogs of other cake designers. For birthdays and showers, the inspiration usually comes from the invitations and decorations for the event...especially kids' parties.
