well i had a fab idea for my friend's 40th birthday cake next week. she loves audrey hepburn and cats so was gonna do the audrey cat with edible pearls round the plaque on top and "fab at 40" and big black ribbon and perhaps a sugar peony instead of a bow. Thought mmm best ask what she would like if it were her cake choice. she came back with something in pink, green and white to match my new bedroom colours... ok so now i feel stumped as this cake has to travel an hour in the car with me then on a train into London busy town to the restaurant so I need to keep it a fairly "stable" style cake

any ideas anyone please? keep thinking 2 tier pretty with flowers 2 different coloured tiers then i'm thinking eeeek its a 40th need to fit that in somewhere and i have to carry it up with me on a train through the busy rush hour crush! I seem to have hit a cake design block

When I look at your cakes, it is inconceivable to me that you would ever be at a loss. I know that doesn't help you at all - just saying.

MAGNOLIA TREE? I have looking at the beautiful trees in blossom and was amazed at the magnolia trees - I am definitely making that one of my projects, can you paint? if you can you could use a pale green background fondant, paint on the trunk and branches and the magnolia in white and pale pink, with food colour dust mixed with either alcohol or cocoa butter. Here's my pink, green and white collection. Yikes, not sure about carrying it up with you on a train, though. Maybe you should find a different commute that day!

thanks everyone. I know it's always the way as soon as i get free reign on a friend's cake I suddenly have a block! that is so spooky imagenthatnj I just found that first one searching on the web. some great cakes. it is a worry on the travel. wonder if i can get away with just a 2 tier. I can paint so maybe that is a great way of getting some detail on a cake without breakage lol icon_smile.gif
