I just finished my new website. Please let me know what you think of it. (Please be nice I did the whole thing myself without any knowledge of what I was doing). Also, anyone who is good at grammar please let me know if I need to add commas or I spelled anything wrong. Thanks

Oh also I had a photgrapher take most of the photos for the website so anything that says coming soon is because I am waiting to get the pictures back. All other photos are from my own collection.

Excellent home page! Really catches the eye and a great choice of pics for a home page. However, I had to go deeper into your site to realize you are advertising dummy cakes and these are not real cakes. It was one of those "ohhhhhhh.........! moments. Perhaps that concept should be on the home page?

On the "How it works" page, I'd change the wording from "more than a bride can afford" to "more than a bride can expect". Sounds less negative.

Even tho' you indicate your are in the Maryland area on the FAQ page, I'd also list it on the Contact Us page only because most people expect to see this info on the Contact page.

I love your website. It's very nice and organized.

I also have to comment on your display/profile picture (not on your website, but the one here on cake central that appears underneath your name). I've been envolved in animal rescue in some form/way since I was 10 years old. I love all dogs, but honestly, my favorite breed is a german shepherd. And that picture of yours is simply adorable!!! LOVE IT! icon_biggrin.gif Just had to tell you that. Sorry it was off topic lol. icon_smile.gificon_wink.gif

@Jody130 No I do not provide anything edible. In Maryland and especially in my county it is very hard to start a bakery and I just don't have the funds to do it right now. This is a way for me to share my love of cake decorating and hopefully down the road I will be able to open a bakery.

@sweetaudrey Thank you we love our baby girl and support the local German Shepherd rescues in our area. We love all dogs!

Most of the pictures filed under past designs are real cakes that I have made for families and friends. However everything that i will be offering to the public will be fake.

I've got two rescues of my own. My baby girl is a GSD mix. I had a purebred in my care for a while (kinda like a foster situation until there was space for him in rescue). He was my other baby and I miss him bunches. Your baby is adorable. I love the look on her face! icon_lol.gif

If you specify to a rescue that you can only handle one foster dog at a time they will work with you. They are in the best interest of the dog and so they want to make sure you can only handle what you can, if that makes sense. icon_smile.gif Fosters are ALWAYS needed so you should deffinitely inquire about it. thumbs_up.gif

I was just looking at your website. You did a great job on it. I noticed on the "Welcome to Sweet Eats Cakes" section that you have written "We can work with every client to make sure they have the cake of there dreams without exhausting their budget!"
Cake of there dreams, should be cake of their dreams. Great job on your website.

on the how it works-
1)bullet point for cost should say sheet cakes not sheets cakes

2)bullet point for transport should say than real cakes instead of then real cakes.

on design options

1) approve the design of your cake and secure your date

FAQ page
1) Sure! For an additional fee you can keep your cake! (Starts at $200)
2) Sure, no problem! We can sit down with you and draw up some sketches to create your dream wedding cake.
3)No, we do not provide any of the sheet cakes. You must provide your own, but we will happily give you our bakery recommendations.
4)We will, however, make edible sugar flowers to adorn your cake.
5)Yes, to secure the event date, Sweet Eats Cakes LLC will decline other cake rentals.
6)The date of the event is considered booked upon receipt of a non-refundable deposit equal to 30% of the total-including value of the cake, delivery charges, and equipment rentals.
7)If the Client cancels the order for any reason, save the death of client or of an immediate family member (parent, sibling, grandparent, children), these conditions apply:

About us
1) masterpieces instead of master pieces
2) this sentence doesn't make sense. Not sure what you meant. "She strives to make her work are true pieces of edible art."

I think that's it. Sorry! I know I was picky, but if it was my website I would want every little thing right! I think this is a fantastic idea, by the way. I can't be legal here in IL (unless they pass the cottage law that was introduced!) so this intrigues me! I could do something like this without having a commercial kitchen! icon_smile.gif Great idea! (don't worry! I'm not stealing it, I just like it!)

good luck!

Great site! Just a quick comment from a usability perspective...people tend to start at the top of a page and read downward, so I recommend moving your navigation links from the very top and giving them a background, since they tend to get lost. I would also include a really obvious button on the home page to guide the visitor to the next page (probably "How it works").

Your site looks usable and easy to get around- Good Job!

I have to second the confusion that you only do display cakes...especially with the word "Eats" in the name of your business! I think a tag line to describe this from the get go would really help out.

Thank you for your comments. I did consider changing the name of my business when I decided to do rentals. I have owned the domain name now for many years since I orginally wanted to start a bakery. I am not sure how to make it more clear that we rent cakes since my tagline is custom cake and supply rentals. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My first impression from your tagline is that you make custom cakes (the edible variety), and you also rent supplies. Changing it to something like "we rent custom display cakes and supplies" might help clarify the tagline.

I was thinking of recommending "non-edible", "dummies", or "styrofoam" instead of "display", but to me those terms all have negative connotations.

Best wishes on your new venture, fellow Marylander! I would put your location on the first page, then list your delivery area. Also, your proximity to Baltimore and Annapolis. One of our homes is on Kent Island, outside of Annapolis, across the Bay Bridge, not too far from you, but I had not heard of Aberdeen. You are close to some bigger cities (with money) and you should capitalize on that.
