Need Help With A Directors Clapper

I have been asked to make a birthday cake of a directors clapper. I was thinking of a large square stacked cake. Now they want the clapper to be open. How do I make it stable and keep the open end from falling? Or will it be stable on it's own.
Any suggestions would b helpful.

You could make the open part out of Rice Krispy Treats. They are sturdier than cake.
