I did my first 3 tier cake for my grandmother's funeral this evening. Cake turned out great, transported great (despite my fears of taking it and 3 small children!). I removed the gumpaste flowers and separated the tiers to cut it (is that what I should've done?) but, when I did, the fondant on top of the bottom tier stuck to the bottom of the middle tier's foam core cake board! So those eating the bottom tier got no fondant! How do I prevent this? Dust cornstarch on the fondant before stacking? Grease the foam core? Help!

I'm sorry for loss. Grandmothers are precious.

To answer your question, I put a parchment circle between the tiers to prevent that.
