Who Else Uses A Photography Tent Cube?

I've just purchased a photography tent cube to aid me in taking a more professional photo of my cakes. I was just wondering who else uses one? For those members who do use one if they could share some of their cake photos using the tent I would love to take a peek. Thanks
I have never heard of a photography tent cube before but googled it and it looks neat. What size did you get? Just wondering how big of a cake it would hold. I too want a better way to take pics of my cakes. They just don't look professional at all and I want to get nice pics.
I don't use a tent cube but I have a pretty simple DIY set-up that gives me pretty good pics.
I have one of the tri-fold cardboard things that kids use for science fair presentations (get it at the craft store). We bought 2 clamp shop lights with the aluminum reflective housings (Home Depot). I drape the cardboard with a white sheet and use the clamps on the lights to hold the sheet in place at the top of the cardboard. Aim the lights down at an angle so the cake is lit from above & the sides.
This cake (& several others in my gallery) was shot using the home rig

It's not a perfect setup but it was less than $20 total.

Someone recently (probably 3-6 months ago now) posted instructions on how they made one of these. I was looking for those yesterday but, was not able to find them. If anyone knows who it was or knows where the instructions are posted I would love the link to them. Thanks!
I also use the home-made version and it works great! It stores flat and it is easy to set up. All of my more recent cakes are photographed using it.
I think if you want a more professional type of photo, you would want to use a cube or set-up like described above. I wouild guess you have bought a very large cube, right, so to fit a tiered cake?

I remember the thread you are referring to... I can't remember the name of the thread, but I had bookmarked the DIY instructions:

someday I hope to get around to making one!
Thanks for the responses I purchased a 36" squared kit with lights & 4 color backdrops. You can see it here http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-Photo-Video-Studio-Light-Kit-Set-Soft-Tent-Cube-08-/250755066106?pt=AU_Cameras_Photographic_Accessories&hash=item3a622aa8fa
I use one--it works pretty well. I think mine is 48". In my pictures the blue mosaic, the green and brown, the snow cake and the oregon bas relief cake were all taken with it. Mine is really large, so it doesn't work as well with small cakes, but it's great for the tiered.

Thanks TitiaM.. I just had to save your blue mosaic cake.. what a treat.. amazing.. love it
Do you use the photograpy lamps with your tent? Yours is HUGE at 48"!! I think mine will still be capable of photographing 3 tiers.. I've never done anything over the 3 tier quota.. yet anyway
Thanks, the mosaic one is one of my favorites
I use a photography bulb in cheap reflector lamps. Though, the best pictures I take outside on an overcast day--not too difficult in Oregon. I think I could do a 5-tier in mine, but I haven't tried yet.

Alaska has so little daylight, and very little good sunlight. At noon today the sun never popped up over the treeline in my back yard. My photos are always grey and overcast, which makes my colors weird.
I'm looking to purchase one of these tents. They don't seem too expensive. I pulled up an old thread.

I picked up a kit a few years ago for about 120.00 dollars. Came with a cube tent, about 3 ft by 3 ft. 3 lights with stands.
I cant remember the company. It worked out well.
AMy set is by Cowboy Studio. My husband purchased this cube for me. When he bought it, the kit came with the cube and the lights.

Any of my pictures with a solid white, red, blue, or black background are used with the backdrops. I do not always use the cube and the lights, depending on the size of the cake or the amount of natural light I have (or how lazy I am feeling).
Hope this helps!
I got one for xmas and love it!! I'm yet to try a bigger sized cake in there yet like a wedding cake, but my tent is quite big.
here's a photo of one of my cakes in the tent but excuse the bottom of the pic as it has a crease which is where I hadn't got round to ironing the backdrop before using it:

Thanks brenda549: that is one of the sets that I was looking at.

This is the one I have altho mine came with white, black, red and blue backdrop and folds up into a black satchel together. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0064MRG64/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1389390076&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX110_SY165
Brenda549, I've been searching for a kit, but the only 36 x 36 ones I could find were like the one in your link. I was concerned that the rounded edges on the bottom lip of the tent would make it difficult to get a cake inside the tent. Also, (aside from the supports) it appears to be made with all vinyl materials. How sturdy is it when you put a cake inside? Thanks so much for your post, because I had ruled this kit out, but it now seems like a good option.
It is difficult to get cakes that are more than 2 tiers into in for pictures, but I typically photograph those at the venue. The cube pulls taunt when it pops out. The differen colored backgrounds are attached with velcro. I have not had any issues with it when it comes to sturdiness or stability.
Brenda 549, thanks so much for the feedback, that's really helpful! I think I'm going to purchase a 40" one to try to accommodate some of my larger cakes.
SweetShop, I've found some reasonably-priced ones on Amazon. Depending on the size, you may have several sellers with different prices to choose from.
