I found a picture on here of a cake that I really like and am going to try and do something similar for my wedding. It had very realistic sunflowers, a few butterflies and bees, and rafia wrapped around each layer. I would like to learn how to make those sunflowers to use on my wedding cake here in a few months. Does anyone have instructions on how they were made? I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks!

There are several great tutorials on here! Click on the forums tab and then the "How do I section" There is a a list of flower tutorials on there! Good luck and welcome to Cake Central!

Jensharp, if you saved the pic you can PM the person who made the cake and just ask them directly. Without a pic of the cake, I think people will have a hard time giving you a lot of help.

I used a fluted cutter for the center and pinched the edge into points. Then I used a Wilton star frosting tip to stipple the center. The petals are very small hearts that I crimped somewhat. I dusted a mix of orange and red powdered food coloring at the inside edge after the petals were attached. I was happy with the result.

Hey Jensharp,
That link takes each person to their own personal favorites not your favoritesicon_smile.gif What you need to do is go into your favorites and click on the individual picture. Then copy the link up in the address bar of your browser into your post. That will point us directly to the picture.

If you would like to PM (personal message) the person who made the cake, while you are on that page with just that cake pic, you can click on the posters name. It will give you some information about the person and have a button labeled PM , like you see at the bottom of each post.

I hope that helpsicon_smile.gif

I think I remember the cake you are referring to, I just happen to have a link attached that shows
a mold for the center of the sunflowers, I'm sure the petals could easily be duplicated with petal cutters/veiners. I also remember coming across instructions to make the sunflowers it may have been on youtube. Thinking maybe it was Edna de Lacruz.

Here is the link to the sunflower leaf cutters:

I've been searching all of my saved tutorials and can't seem to find the instructions.
I think having the realistic looking center mold will really help you to achieve a realistic sunflower
